About NAD+

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a dinucleotide built from two linked nucleotides — one carrying an adenine base and the other a nicotinamide base — joined through their phosphate groups. It exists in two interconverting forms: the oxidised form, NAD+, and the reduced form, NADH. This redox pair is the primary electron carrier of central metabolism, shuttling reducing equivalents through glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.

Beyond its classical role in redox chemistry, NAD+ is consumed as a co-substrate by three important enzyme families: the sirtuins (NAD+-dependent deacylases involved in transcriptional and metabolic regulation), the PARPs (poly-ADP-ribose polymerases active in DNA-damage response), and the CD38/CD157 ectoenzymes. Because these enzymes cleave NAD+ rather than simply cycling it, cellular NAD+ pools turn over continuously, and NAD+ availability has become a central variable in laboratory studies of metabolism and cellular ageing.

Athenex Labs supplies NAD+ strictly as a research compound. It is not an approved medicine and is not sold for human or veterinary use.

Research applications

NAD+ is used in laboratory settings for work including:

Handling and storage

Lyophilized NAD+ should be stored at -20°C and protected from light and moisture — it is hygroscopic and degrades on exposure to humidity. The sealed vial tolerates ambient temperature for the duration of transit without meaningful loss of activity.

For reconstitution, cold sterile or bacteriostatic water is typically used, added slowly against the inner wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder. NAD+ in aqueous solution is markedly less stable than the dry powder, so reconstituted material should be kept cold at 2-8°C, protected from light, and used promptly within the timeframe appropriate to your protocol. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the solution.

Purity verification

Every batch Athenex Labs supplies is verified at 99%+ purity by high-performance liquid chromatography, with molecular identity confirmed by mass spectrometry. We source directly from ISO-certified manufacturers rather than through reseller chains, and we test independently rather than relying solely on supplier documentation. A batch-specific certificate of analysis is available on request.

Frequently asked questions

What is the purity of Athenex Labs NAD+?

Every batch is verified at 99%+ purity by HPLC, with molecular identity confirmed by mass spectrometry. A batch-specific certificate of analysis is available on request before or after purchase.

How should NAD+ be stored?

Store the sealed lyophilized vial at -20 degrees C, protected from light and moisture. NAD+ is hygroscopic and light-sensitive. Once reconstituted, store at 2-8 degrees C and use promptly, as NAD+ in solution degrades faster than the dry powder.

Why is this a 1000mg vial?

NAD+ is studied at substantially higher masses than most peptides, so it is supplied as a high-dose 1000mg lyophilized vial to reduce cost per milligram and handling for laboratories running repeat assays.

Research use only. NAD+ 1000mg supplied by Athenex Labs is a research chemical intended exclusively for in-vitro laboratory investigation. It is not a drug, supplement or medicine. It is not for human or animal consumption and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. By purchasing you confirm that you are a qualified researcher or represent a research institution, and that the material will be used solely for legitimate scientific research.
